The "work" in solving a problem is setting it up correctly (usually in the language of algebra, but other ways too)

Some problem solving strategies and techniques. Try to find something "better" than Polya. Include some problems to solve, of course, and try to include problems of a similar difficulty throughout. Discussion on patterns (with reference to if-then statements). INCLUDE EXPLORATION, TRANSLATING INTO ALGEBRA, SHOWING MULTIPLE METHODS.

Translating. Focus on testing with simple examples, defining your variables. Using equality to substitute. Exploration to find formula for situation.

Open ended problems: going from examples to conjecture to "proof". HIGHLIGHT MANY WAYS OF PROVING!
